At BlueStone Beef we do things differently. BlueStone Beef is based on the philosophy of taking the best in proven science and applying it to our breeding program.
The benefit of embracing heterosis to breed composites means we have the unique ability to pivot and specifically tailor breed compositions to meet customer and market requirements. We listen to our clients- and we deliver what they want.
We have three Breeding programs tailor designed to meet requirements of different customers, regions and markets:
All BlueStone Beef breeding programs have at least 50% Angus component, enabling all progeny to meet Angus specifications required for marketing purposes. A price premium matched with increased productivity equals increased profitability. Enhanced growth and reproductive efficiency is resulting in increased demand for our seedstock.
The BlueStone Benchmark program comprises of a combination of Angus x Black Gelbvieh X Black Simmental genetics. By combining breeds that excel in a different range of traits, we exhibit higher levels of heterosis and harness the effects of breed complementarity. Using a combination of selected traits from multiple breeds, the BlueStone Beef program produces a black, polled animal with superior early growth rates producing a moderate maternal female.
With the request for “abit extra” we have introduced a line that incorporate Charolais genetics. The ultimate aim of crossing BlueStone Beef X Charolais, is to breed progeny that is black and polled, has extra growth, increased muscle conformation and superior feed conversion efficiency. BlueStone X-tra is ultimately extra performance for our grass-fed clients focussed on terminal programs.
Bluestone Beef already has a footprint in Central Australia. We are excited to announce the new BlueStone Bos program to increase our footprint in Central and Northern Australia pastoral operations.
BlueStone Bos is the introduction of Santa Gertrudis and or Brangus genetics to the BlueStone Beef program. The Santa Gertrudis and Brahman genetics will increase adaptability by adding tick resistance, heat resistance, drought tolerance and slick coat. BlueStone Bos will produce black/brown polled sires with between 15-50% Bos Indicus. Bos Indicus x BlueStone Beef composite – that is our point of difference
We believe BlueStone Bos can replicate the BlueStone Beef performance figures achieved to date and in doing so, will:
BlueStone Beef’s data contributes to the International Genetic Solutions (IGS) Multi Breed EPD Percentile table. IGS has over 20-million animals and over 300,000 genotypes from nearly 20 different organisations. When BlueStone Beef’s Sire’s performance data is compared against the world’s largest and only major multi-breed cattle evaluation system – it has performed well:
